The term "antibiotic" was coined by Selman Waksman in 1942 (not "Walksman" as written). Waksman, a microbiologist, discovered several antibiotics including streptomycin and won the Nobel Prize in 1952. While Fleming discovered penicillin and Pasteur contributed to germ theory, the term itself was Waksman's contribution.

The term "aromatic" originally referred to fragrant compounds, as many early-discovered aromatic compounds had pleasant odors. While benzene is the classic aromatic compound and aromatic rings are cyclic and planar, the term itself comes from the Greek "aroma" meaning fragrance or pleasant smell.
