Oil and natural gas are hydrocarbons, meaning they are composed primarily of hydrogen and carbon atoms. This is fundamental organic chemistry - the 'hydro' in hydrocarbons refers to hydrogen, and 'carb' refers to carbon. Oxygen is present in combustion products but not in the raw fuels. Nitrogen and sulfur are minor impurities in some deposits but not primary components.

Multilateral drilling is an advanced technique where a single wellbore branches out to access multiple oil or gas-bearing zones at different depths or locations. This is more efficient than drilling separate wells. Horizontal drilling allows access along a single layer, while multilateral drilling can tap multiple layers from one main well. Extended rich drilling and complex path drilling are not standard industry terms.

After casing is cemented in a well, the standard completion sequence is: (1) install production tubing inside the casing, (2) perforate the casing and cement at the productive zones, (3) then begin production. Installing tubing first provides the conduit for hydrocarbons to flow to the surface. Perforating happens after tubing is in place but before production begins. Vacuum is not part of this process.

Steam injection is an enhanced oil recovery technique where steam is pumped into partially depleted reservoirs. The primary purpose is to heat the remaining heavy oil, which reduces its viscosity and makes it flow more easily toward production wells. While some gas dissolution may occur incidentally, heating is the main mechanism. Steam does not primarily make rock more porous or detach oil from walls.

In petroleum and natural gas industries, 'wet gas' refers to natural gas that contains significant amounts of heavier hydrocarbons that condense into liquids at surface conditions, along with water vapor. The term 'sweet' refers to low sulfur content, while 'sour' indicates high sulfur. 'Soggy' is not a standard industry term.

ECDIS is a marine navigation system that integrates three key components: digital nautical charts (route maps), GPS positioning data, and directional/heading data from the ship's helm. Options A and B each miss one of these three essential components.

Octane rating measures a gasoline's resistance to engine knocking - premature fuel combustion. Higher octane fuels resist knocking better and are used in high-performance or high-compression engines. It does not measure density, boiling point, or purity.
