Oil and natural gas deposits originated from microscopic marine organisms (plankton, algae, and tiny animals) that lived millions of years ago. When these organisms died, they sank to ocean floors and were buried under sediment. Over millions of years, heat and pressure transformed this organic matter into petroleum. They did NOT come from dinosaurs - this is a common misconception.
