Entomology is the branch of zoology that focuses on the study of insects, including their behavior, physiology, classification, and ecology. The prefix 'entomo-' comes from Greek meaning 'insect' or 'cut up' (referring to insects' segmented bodies). It is distinct from the study of all animals (zoology), mammals (mammalogy), or reptiles (herpetology).

Potamology is the scientific study of rivers, from the Greek word 'potamos' meaning river. It covers river systems, their flow patterns, and sediment transport. Limnology studies lakes, while orography deals with mountains and hills.

Diagenesis is the process of compaction, cementation, and chemical changes that convert loose sediment into solid sedimentary rock over time.

Herbivorous animals are those that naturally feed on plant material. Their digestive systems are adapted to break down cellulose and extract nutrients from leaves, stems, and other plant parts. They do not eat other animals or insects.
