Herpetology is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of reptiles and amphibians. This includes snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, salamanders, and crocodilians. Entomology studies insects, ichthyology studies fish, and cetology studies whales and dolphins. The term comes from the Greek 'herpeton' meaning 'creeping thing'.
