Herpetology is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of reptiles and amphibians, including snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, and salamanders. The term comes from the Greek word 'herpeton' meaning creeping thing. Snakology, reptology, and shakology are not recognized scientific terms.
