According to Hindu mythology, Parashurama (the sixth avatar of Vishnu) shot an arrow into the Arabian Sea, reclaiming land to create the Konkan coast, which includes modern-day Goa. This legend explains the coastal formation of the region. Arjun is a different figure from the Mahabharata, while Kadamba refers to a dynasty that ruled Goa much later.

The historic Goa opinion poll was conducted on 16th January 1967 to determine whether Goa should remain a Union Territory or merge with Maharashtra. The people voted to retain Goa's separate status as a Union Territory. December 1961 marks Operation Vijay when India liberated Goa from Portuguese rule, not the opinion poll.

The Nile plover (also called Egyptian plover) is famous for its symbiotic relationship with crocodiles - it enters the crocodile's mouth to pick out parasites and food particles from between their teeth. This mutually beneficial behavior gives the bird its food while cleaning the crocodile's teeth. Sparrows, kingfishers, and crows do not engage in this behavior.
