The Portuguese came to an island whose part is Elephanta caves. The Elephanta caves are built in the Arabian Sea, which is 12 km from Mumbai. There are total 7 caves. By seeing the huge stone monument of an elephant the Portuguese named it as Elephanta.

These are easier to date because many manuscripts have been found indicating that they were composed between the late 15th and the middle of the 18th centuries. Bengali literature independent of Sanskrit- It includes Nath literature such as the songs of Maynamati and Gopichandra, stories concerning the worship of Dharma Thakur, and fairy tales, folk tales and ballads. These were circulated orally and cannot be precisely dated and were particularly popular in eastern Bengal where the Brahmanical influence was relatively weak.

Gangaur is a festival celebrated in the Indian state of Rajasthan and some parts of Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. It honours the goddess Gauri, a manifestation of Lord Shiva's wife. It is one of the most important and colourful festivals for the Rajasthani people.

We also tend to associate each region with distinctive kinds of food, clothes, poetry, dance, music and painting.

Kathak is one of the ten major forms of Indian classical dance. Kathak is found in three distinct forms, named after the cities where the Kathak dance tradition evolved – Jaipur, Banaras and Lucknow. Stylistically, the Kathak dance form emphasises rhythmic foot movements, adorned with small bells, and the movement harmonised to the music. The legs and torso are generally straight, and the story is told through a developed vocabulary based on the gestures of arms and upper body movement, facial expressions, stage movements, bends and turns.

The Jagannatha temple is located at Puri, Orissa. In the twelfth century, one of the most important rulers of the Ganga dynasty, Anantavarman, decided to erect a temple for Purushottama Jagannatha at Puri. Subsequently, in 1230, king Anangabhima III dedicated his kingdom to the deity and proclaimed himself as the deputy of the god.
