The coastal plains of Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Villupuram are together known as the Cholamandalam plains. Ramanathapuram is not the part of Cholamandalam plains.

The equator represents the 0° latitude. It divides the earth into two hemispheres: Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. All the parallels north of the equator are called "North latitudes" and all parallels south of the equator are called "South latitudes".

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the sun, Earth and moon are aligned (in "syzygy") exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle.

• The shape of the earth is also called the geoid shape.

A continuous mass of land in the surface of the earth is termed as continent. There are 7 continents in our surface of the earth namely, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Antarctica. Asia is the largest continent and Australia is the smallest continents in the surface of the earth.
