World Geography and Capitals

Manila is the capital and largest city of the Philippines. Lagos is in Nigeria, Quezon City was the former capital but is now a part of Metro Manila, and Casablanca is in Morocco. Manila has been the capital since 1948 and remains the political and commercial center of the Philippines.

Bern (also spelled Berne) is the capital of Switzerland, not Zurich which is the largest city. Bern has been the federal capital since 1848. Chaguanas is in Trinidad and Tobago, while Omdurman is in Sudan. Switzerland's political capital is Bern, while Zurich is its financial center.

After hijacking Air France Flight 139, the terrorists flew the hostages to Entebbe Airport in Uganda, Africa. Uganda was chosen because its dictator Idi Amin was sympathetic to the hijackers. The hostages were not taken to Delhi (B), Lahore (C), or Beijing (D).

La Paz is the administrative capital and seat of government of Bolivia, where the executive branch is located. Sucre is the constitutional capital but La Paz is the de facto functioning capital. Luanda is Angola's capital, Phnom Penh is Cambodia's, and Sofia is Bulgaria's.

Asmara is the capital and largest city of Eritrea, located in the Horn of Africa. It became the capital when Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993. Bogota is the capital of Colombia, Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus, and Astana (now Nur-Sultan) is the capital of Kazakhstan.
