Verbal Analogies

To be a philanthropist, one must be generous. To be a pacifist one must be peace-loving. 

Snake. This is an example of food chain.

 The lead pair is a set of antonymous words: a crafty person lacks simplicity and strightforwardness. Similarly lecherousness is a trait extraneous to and opposite of the nature of a celibate (a person who indulges in abstinence).

 An inerudite person lacks knowledge; an indecisive person lacks determination.

 A pair of antonyms. A libertarian (lax) is not exacting (strict); a prodigy (genius) is not doltish (dull). 

 A pair of synonyms. Saturnine is surly or morose; convivial is lively.

 A hypochondriac shows lot of anxiety (false feeling of sickness); a martinet shows lot of strictness in matters of discipline.

 A pair of antonyms. Idyllic represents a pastoral laid-back approach. Frenzied or agitaed will be the opposite. Likewise, hermetic represents abstinence while prurient represents not only indulgene but also lewdness. 

A hurricane is a specific type of storm. Similarly, incarceration is a specific type of punishment. This is a 'type of' or 'classification' relationship.

Incorrigible means incapable of being reformed. The relationship is 'adjective that describes something that cannot be [verb]ed'. Inevitable means something that cannot be avoided. Thus, 'Inevitable : Avoid' fits the pattern.

A fortress is defined by being impregnable (impossible to break into). A comedy is defined by being funny. This is a 'defining characteristic' relationship.

Confiscate and acquire are synonyms or near-synonyms related to taking possession. Arrest and detain are synonyms related to holding someone in custody.

Uncouth means lacking refinement. The relationship is 'adjective describing a lack of a noun'. Passive means lacking aggression. This fits the pattern of a trait and its corresponding absence.
