Billy Murdoch was the Australian captain who lost the Ashes in 1882-83 and 1884. Ricky Ponting later became the first Australian captain since Murdoch to lose the Ashes twice (2005 and 2009). Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor were highly successful captains who did not lose multiple Ashes series.
