Legislature and Parliament

The Folketing is Denmark's unicameral parliament, established in its current form in 1849. The name means 'the people's thing' in Danish, reflecting its origins as a Viking-age assembly. 'Parliament' is too generic, 'Congress' refers to American-style legislatures, and Federal Parliament implies a federal system which Denmark is not.

The Parliament of Canada is a bicameral legislature consisting of the House of Commons and Senate, modeled on the British Westminster system. It has been Canada's supreme legislative body since Confederation in 1867. National Assembly is used in Quebec provincially, House of Assembly is used in some provinces, and Majlis is used in Islamic countries.

The National Assembly is the lower house of France's bicameral parliament, while the Senate is the upper house. Together they form the French Parliament (Parlement français). The National Assembly has greater power than the Senate in the legislative process.
