Indian States and Union Territories

Arunachal Pradesh and Goa both attained full statehood in 1987. Nagaland became a state much earlier in 1963, and Meghalaya was formed in 1972.

Manipur is an inland state in Northeast India that shares borders with Myanmar but not with Bangladesh. Tripura and Mizoram both share international borders with Bangladesh.

The Kerala state cabinet approved the setting up of the Kerala Maritime Institute in early 2008 to provide training and education in the maritime sector. This was aimed at tapping into the state's coastal potential.

Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand) was created as the 27th state of India in November 2000. Chhattisgarh was the 26th and Jharkhand was the 28th.

The Cauvery River basin extends over the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry. Maharashtra is located further north and is not part of this specific river basin.

The name of language of Odissa is changed to Odia.

The Pratibha Kiran Yojana was launched by the Madhya Pradesh government to provide financial assistance to meritorious girl students from urban BPL families for higher education. It aims to encourage bright students to continue their studies after the 12th grade. The scheme provides a monthly stipend to eligible candidates.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) introduced the AWATAR (Any Where Any Time Advance Reservation) system. It was a pioneering web-based passenger reservation system for bus travel in India, allowing commuters to book tickets from anywhere. This system significantly improved the efficiency and convenience of public transport in the state.

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data from the late 2000s, Maharashtra consistently reported the highest number of suicides in the country. Factors often cited include agrarian distress and urban stress. While other states like West Bengal also had high numbers, Maharashtra was frequently at the top.

The Right to Information Act 2005 was applicable to the whole of India except for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This was due to the state's special status under Article 370 of the Constitution at the time of the Act's commencement. This changed in 2019 when the state was reorganized into Union Territories.

The Ganga Expressway Project is a major infrastructure project in Uttar Pradesh, India, aimed at connecting the eastern and western parts of the state. It was originally launched by the state government to improve connectivity along the Ganges river.

Tamil Nadu was the first to implement Right to Information Act.

Uttar Pradesh is the leading producer of food grains and cereals in India, thanks to its extensive fertile plains and irrigation facilities. It ranks first in the production of wheat and contributes significantly to the national cereal output. Punjab and Haryana are also major producers but rank lower in total volume.

Goa was a Union Territory from 1961 until 1987, after which it was granted full statehood. Chandigarh, Puducherry (Pondicherry), and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain Union Territories of India. Therefore, Goa is currently a state and not a Union Territory.
