Indian Honours and Awards

Saina Nehwal was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2010-2011 for her exceptional achievements in badminton, becoming the first Indian badminton player to achieve this honor. Dhoni received it earlier (2007), while Abhinav Bindra received it in 2001.

Veerappa Moily received the Next Step Foundation 2010 award for outstanding contribution to international legal cooperation. He was Law Minister and played a key role in legal reforms. H Bhardwaj was Law Minister earlier, P Chidambaram held Finance/Home.

Hrishikesh Sulabh received the 2010 International Indu Sharma Katha Samman for his contributions as a poet and short story writer in Hindi literature. Pawan Chamling is a politician (Sikkim CM), Byomkesh Bakshi is fictional, Ranjan Rout is a different writer.

Ritu Sarin, along with her colleague at The Indian Express, was awarded the Prem Bhatia Award for Political Reporting in 2010 for her investigative journalism work. The award recognizes excellence in political journalism in India.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is responsible for awarding the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry. The Nobel Prize in Economics is formally called the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, also awarded by the Academy, but the question specifically asks about the categories traditionally established in Nobel's will.

Param Vir means 'Bravest of the Brave' in Sanskrit/Hindi. The Param Vir Chakra is India's highest military decoration for valour, awarded for the most conspicuous bravery before the enemy. 'Brave Warrior' is close but not the exact translation.
