SNDT University (now SNDT Women's University) was the first women's university in India, established in 1916 in Mumbai. It was founded by Dhondo Keshav Karve with the mission of women's education and empowerment. Calcutta and Shanti Niketan were co-educational institutions.

IGNOU launched Gyandarshan in 2000 as its educational TV channel to broadcast educational programs for distance learners. The name combines 'Gyan' (knowledge) and 'Darshan' (view/vision)

The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata became the first organization in India to use a computer in 1955, installing a HEC-2M computer. This marked the beginning of the computer era in India for statistical and scientific computing applications.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta won the 'ET in Campus' quiz organized by Economic Times in association with Cognizant. The quiz was conducted by noted quizmaster Giri 'Pickbrain' Balasubramaniam, a Bangalore-based quiz creator famous for his corporate quizzes.

Educomp Solutions Ltd., a leading education company in India, partnered with the Education Quality Foundation of India (EQFI) to launch the 'India Education Awards'. These awards recognize excellence and innovation in the education sector across India.

The India Education Awards were instituted to recognize and honor quality work specifically in school education. Educomp Solutions and EQFI launched these awards to encourage excellence at the foundational educational level, not higher education or specialized institutions.

NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) is the statutory body responsible for planning and coordinating the development of teacher education systems. It prescribes norms and standards for teacher education courses, unlike NCERT which focuses on curriculum and educational research.

Nalanda was founded by Kumaragupta I in the 5th century CE and became the most renowned center of Buddhist learning. Huen Tsang (Xuanzang), the Chinese pilgrim, studied at Nalanda for approximately five years during his visit to India in the 7th century. Taxila was an earlier center of learning that had declined by this time, while Ujjain and Pataliputra were important cities but not the famous educational institution Huen Tsang attended.

Pondicherry University is a Central University established in 1985 under the Central Universities Act. Central Universities are funded by the Central Government and have greater autonomy compared to State Universities. Kolkata, Dibrugarh, and Kurukshetra are State Universities.

North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a Central University established on 19 July 1973 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The University is in the suburb of Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, India. The University has two campuses: Shillong and Tura in Meghalaya. NEHU Tura Campus functions under a pro-vice chancellor.

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) was established in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala, in 2007. It's Asia's first space institute and the first in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in space science and technology.

Edusat (Education Satellite) was India's first educational satellite, launched in 2004. It was specifically designed for educational purposes to provide distance learning across India.

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was founded in 1920, making it the oldest trade union organization in India. INTUC was established in 1947, CITU in 1970, and BMS in 1955, all came after AITUC.

Navsari Agricultural University is an agricultural university at Navsari in the Indian state of Gujarat. It was part of Gujarat Agricultural University until May 2004.
