Indian Cities and Places

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is located in New Delhi and is one of the premier research laboratories under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It serves as India's national measurement standards institute. Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai have CSIR labs but not the NPL.

Sikander Lodhi (Sikandar Lodi), the Sultan of Delhi from 1489-1517, made Agra his capital and is credited with establishing the city's importance in 1504. While other options are famous historical figures, they're not associated with founding Agra. The city later became famous under the Mughals for the Taj Mahal.

Panaji (Panjim) is the capital of Goa. It houses the state legislative assembly and serves as the administrative center. Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, while Imphal (Manipur) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) are capitals of other states.

Queensland is the amusement park located in Chennai. It is one of the popular theme parks in Tamil Nadu. Black Thunder is near Coimbatore, Veegaland is in Kochi, and Wonder La has branches in Bangalore and Kochi but not Chennai.

Black Thunder is the amusement park near Kodaikanal, located in Tamil Nadu. VGP is in Chennai, Veegaland is in Kochi, and My Amusement Film City is not a major recognized amusement park in the Kodaikanal area.

Coimbatore earned the title "Manchester of South India" due to its extensive textile industry and numerous cotton mills, similar to how Manchester in UK became famous during the Industrial Revolution. The city remains a major textile manufacturing and trading hub.

The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of Yamuna River. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1632-1653 as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Agra is approximately 200 km from Delhi.

Gol Gumbaz is located in Bijapur (now Vijayapura), Karnataka. Built in 1656, it houses the tomb of Mohammad Adil Shah and is famous for its massive dome (approximately 44 meters in diameter) and unique whispering gallery where even faint sounds echo around the dome.

Kolkata is located on the east bank of the Hooghly River, which is a distributary of the Ganges River. The city grew around this river and it remains central to its identity and economy. Lucknow is on the Gomti River, Agra on the Yamuna, and Ahmedabad on the Sabarmati.

The Victoria Memorial, a grand white marble building dedicated to Queen Victoria, is located in Kolkata. It was built between 1906 and 1921 and is now a major tourist attraction and museum. Jaipur, Bombay (Mumbai), and Delhi do not house this monument.

The Charminar, meaning "four minarets," is a monument and mosque located in Hyderabad. It was built in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic. Bijapur, Bhubaneshwar, and Kolkata are not the home of this landmark.

The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is located in Amritsar, Punjab. It is the holiest gurdwara and the most important pilgrimage site of Sikhism. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Indore are major cities but not associated with the Golden Temple.

Lahore was the capital of undivided Punjab province during British rule in India. After Partition in 1947, Punjab was divided between India and Pakistan, with Lahore becoming part of Pakistan. Chandigarh was built later as a new capital for Indian Punjab. Amritsar is a holy city, and Lucknow is in Uttar Pradesh.

The World Samskrita Book Fair is a major event for promoting Sanskrit literature and has been held in Bangalore. Bangalore is a major center for Sanskrit learning and cultural activities in South India.

Fort William is located in Kolkata, specifically in the Maidan area. It was built by the British East India Company in 1696 and later rebuilt in its current form between 1758-1781, serving as a key military stronghold during colonial rule.
