The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is headquartered in Lucknow. It functions as a technical advisor to the Railway Board and is responsible for the standardization of railway equipment and systems. It is the only R&D institution of the Indian Railways.

The Indian Railways Institute of Advanced Track Technology (IRICEN) is located in Pune. It is a premier institute responsible for training civil engineers of the Indian Railways in track technology and maintenance.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) established a regional training program in Pune, India, to provide training for government officials in macroeconomic management and policy. This center serves officials from India and neighboring countries.

Ahmedabad is a major textile hub, often called the 'Denim Capital of India' due to the presence of large manufacturers like Arvind Ltd. It is also a significant center for the processing and export of gemstones and jewelry.
