Important National and International Days

National Youth Day is celebrated on January 12th in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda (born January 12, 1863). The day was declared by the Government of India in 1984 to honor Vivekananda's teachings and his role as an inspiration to the youth of India.

National Science Day is celebrated on February 28th to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist C.V. Raman in 1928. Abdul Kalam.

National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29th on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand (1905-1979), widely regarded as one of the greatest field hockey players of all time. He won three Olympic gold medals for India (1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles, 1936 Berlin) and was known as 'The Wizard' for his extraordinary ball control and scoring ability.

Independence Day is celebrated on August 15th to commemorate India's independence from British rule in 1947. After nearly 200 years of colonial rule, India gained freedom following the independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and other leaders. The first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort on this day.

South Korea celebrates its independence day on August 15th, commemorating liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. This is known as Gwangbokjeol (Restoration of Light Day). The date coincides with India's independence day but the events are separate.

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7th to mark the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. It's a global health awareness day, not to be confused with May 31st (World No Tobacco Day) or other dates listed.

World No Tobacco Day is observed annually on May 31st, as established by the WHO in 1987. It's dedicated to raising awareness about the health risks of tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption worldwide.

World Population Day is observed on July 11th every year, established by the United Nations to raise awareness about population issues and their impact on development and the environment. It was first observed in 1989.

World Literacy Day is officially known as International Literacy Day and is celebrated on September 8th annually. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1966 to highlight the importance of literacy for individuals, communities, and societies.

World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27th every year, chosen to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970. It aims to foster awareness of tourism's social, cultural, and economic value.

World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1st, dedicated to raising awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. It was first observed in 1988.
