The Ashes is the prestigious Test cricket series played between Australia and England, one of the oldest rivalries in international cricket dating back to 1882. The name comes from a mock obituary that said English cricket had died and "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia" after Australia's first Test win on English soil.

The Ranji Trophy started in 1934-35 and has been conducted every year since then without interruption, spanning over 75 years. The Ashes has gaps due to wars, World Cup is quadrennial, and Border-Gavaskar Trophy started much later (1996-97).

Kapil Dev made his Test debut against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 1978-79. This was the start of a legendary career where he became India's greatest fast bowler and one of the finest all-rounders in cricket history. He didn't debut against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, or Australia.

Stumpy, the elephant, was the official mascot of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The mascot was designed to represent the cricket-loving spirit of the Indian subcontinent where elephants are culturally significant. Appu was the mascot for the 1982 Asian Games, while Haathi (the elephant) represented the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Denesh Ramdin is a wicketkeeper-batsman who plays international cricket for the West Indies. Sri Lanka has players like Kushal Perera. Zimbabwe has players like Brendan Taylor. South Africa has players like Quinton de Kock.

Sunil Gavaskar completed his 10,000 Test runs against Pakistan in a Test match. This was a historic milestone as he became the first player to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket. England was the team against whom he scored his 10,000th run in ODIs. Australia and Sri Lanka were not the opponents for this milestone.
