Sulfur and nitrogen oxides react with atmospheric water vapor to form acids, which fall to the Earth's surface as wet deposition, commonly known as acid rain.

The combustion of fossil fuels, particularly coal in power plants, is the largest anthropogenic source of sulfur dioxide emissions globally.

When smoke (containing sulfur dioxide) interacts with water vapor in the atmosphere, it forms sulfuric acid mist, which contributes to smog and acid rain.

Volcanic eruptions are a significant natural source of sulfur dioxide, releasing large quantities of the gas into the atmosphere.

The pollutants which cannot be broken down into simpler, harmless substances in nature, are called non-biodegradable pollutants. DDT, plastics, polythene, bags, insecticides, pesticides, mercury, lead, arsenic, metal articles like aluminium cans, synthetic fibres, glass objects, iron products, and silver foils are non-biodegradable pollutants.

Fumes are fine solid particles formed by the condensation of vapors from solid materials, typically during high-temperature processes like smelting or welding.

Dust, smoke, fly ash, and fumes are all examples of solid particulate matter suspended in the air.

Vehicular, industries, garbage, brick-kilns are some example of man made pollutants. These pollutants are under human control.

Fly ash is a byproduct of burning pulverized coal in thermal power plants. It consists of fine particles that are captured from the flue gases.

Acid rain is the secondary effect of air pollution. The gases like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide when in high concentration in the air, mix with the air moisture in clouds and form sulphuric and nitric acids. These acids come down to the earth in the form of acid rain-causing much damage to the living organism and buildings. Acid rain pollutes water and soil both. When the rain droplets get mixed with nitrogen and sulfur oxide it causes acid rain. this acid rain when fall on earth reacts with soil because of chemicals present in acid rain, the fertility of particular area gets affected.

Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum, natural gas etc. These are used to generate energy for transportation cooking and many other. Such actions release particulate matter which includes suspended chemical compounds like oxides of sulphur and nitrogen and dangerous gases like carbonmonooxides.

Electrostatic precipitators device that removes suspended dust particles from a gas or exhaust by applying a high-voltage electrostatic charge and collecting the particles on charged plates and used to reduce air pollution due to smoke in power plants.

• Its composition is propane or butane or a mixture of both, are flammable mixtures of hydrocarbon gases used as fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment, and vehicles.
• Use of LPG is not a method to control air pollution because Inhaling of LPG vapour can cause irritation in nose and throat, headache and nausea, vomiting, dizziness and loss of consciousness.
  
• Hence Use of LPG gas is not a method to control air pollution.

Most of the automobiles have an environmental impact up to 80 to 90 percent., It is due to fuel consumption and emissions of air pollution and greenhouse gases that are said to drive global warming.
