Cleopatra VII was the last active ruler of ancient Egypt, reigning until her death in 30 BC. After her defeat by Octavian (later Augustus Caesar), Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire, ending Egyptian sovereign rule. She is one of history's most famous Egyptian queens.
