Dehradun is believed to have been founded by Guru Ram Rai, the eldest son of Guru Har Rai (the 7th Sikh Guru), who established his camp here in 1676. The city grew around his dera (camp). Dronacharya is linked to the city's ancient mythology but not its founding.
