The Giant Panda is the rarest bear species with an estimated wild population of around 1,864 individuals. Native only to China's mountain ranges, they have the most restricted geographic range and lowest population among all bear species. Polar Bears, while vulnerable to climate change, have a population of approximately 26,000. Red Pandas are not true bears (they belong to their own family Ailuridae). Spectacled Bears have a larger population and range than Giant Pandas.
