Maharani Devi, also known as Devi or Vedisa-Mahadevi, was Ashoka's first wife and the mother of his son Mahendra and daughter Sanghamitra. She was a Buddhist merchant's daughter from Vedisa and significantly influenced Ashoka's conversion to Buddhism.
