Amharic is the official and most widely spoken language in Ethiopia, serving as the working language of government and used in education. While Ethiopia has over 80 languages, Amharic functions as the lingua franca. Swahili, Hiri Motu, and Hausa are not main languages of Ethiopia: Hausa is West African, Hiri Motu is Papua New Guinean, and Swahili is East African but not predominant in Ethiopia.
