Who gave the Panch lingas to Shankara?

According to hagiographical traditions, Lord Shiva gave the five Panchalingas to Adi Shankaracharya - one each for the four mathas he established and one for his own worship. These lingas are known as: Varaha (Sringeri), Nimba (Dwarka), Gowda (Puri), Yogalinga (Jyotirmath), and Chandramouleeshwara (personal worship). Option A (Sage Govindapada) was Shankara's guru. Option B (Maha Vishnu) and Option C (Brahhma) are not associated with this gift in the traditional accounts.
