Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was the first person from Odisha to receive the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, in 2001 for his contributions to Odissi dance. He was a legendary Odissi exponent and guru. Sanjukta Panigrahi and Kum Kum Mahanty were notable Odissi dancers, and Guru Ramaniranjan Jena was also a dance guru, but Kelucharan Mohapatra was the first Padma Vibhushan recipient from Odisha.
