Pingali Venkiah, a freedom fighter from Andhra Pradesh, designed the Indian national flag in 1921. His original design included a spinning wheel (charkha) in the center, which was later replaced by the Ashoka Chakra when the flag was officially adopted in 1947. The colors saffron, white, and green represent courage, peace, and fertility respectively.
