Burkina Faso was formerly known as Upper Volta (French: Haute-Volta) when it was a French colony. The name changed to Burkina Faso in 1984 under Thomas Sankara. Togo, Urundi (now part of Burundi), and British Honduras (now Belize) are entirely different countries with different colonial histories.
