Afghanistan is the odd one out because Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan are all Turkic-speaking Central Asian countries that were part of the former Soviet Union. Afghanistan, while geographically in Central Asia, has a different cultural and linguistic heritage (Persian/Pashto) and was never part of the USSR.
