Chad is called the Dead Heart of Africa because it's a landlocked country at the geographical center of Africa, with much of its territory covered by the arid Sahara Desert in the north and the Sahel region in the south. This nickname reflects its remote, harsh geography and lack of coastline. Tonga, Rwanda, and Thailand do not bear this epithet.
