Gandhinagar has been the capital of Gujarat since 1971, built to replace Ahmedabad as the administrative center. It's a planned city named after Mahatma Gandhi. Bhavnagar, Vadodara (Baroda), and Rajkot are major cities - Vadodara being the cultural capital - but Gandhinagar houses the state government.
