Indus Valley Civilization
Indian history begins with the Indus Valley Civilization (c. 3300-1300 BCE), the first urban civilization in the Indian subcontinent. The Vedic period came later (c. 1500-500 BCE). Greek, Jain, and other civilizations either came later or were not the foundational civilization of India.
The Indus Valley Civilization (c. 2500 BCE), with cities like Mohenjo-daro and Harappa, is considered the starting point of recorded Indian history due to its urban planning, script, and trade networks. The Vedic period followed the decline of this civilization, and the Greek and Jain traditions emerged even later, so none of them mark history's actual beginning in India.
