India's tricolor flag (with a spinning wheel) was first officially hoisted by Jawaharlal Nehru on the banks of the Ravi river in Lahore on 31 December 1929, during the Congress session that adopted the Purna Swaraj (complete independence) resolution. This is distinct from Subhas Chandra Bose's later flag-hoisting in Kohima during the INA campaign, and from Gandhi, who was not the one who raised this particular flag at Lahore.
