Who was the first advocating fingerprints in criminal detection and identification

Dr. Henry Faulds, a Scottish physician working in Japan, published a letter in the scientific journal Nature in 1880 advocating for the use of fingerprints in criminal identification. He was the first to suggest that fingerprints could be used to solve crimes by matching prints left at crime scenes to suspects. While others had noted the uniqueness of prints, Faulds was the first to advocate for their forensic application.
