Chaibagaan Time introduced by British people more than 150 years ago, was set one hour ahead of IST for tea estates, collieries and oil industry of Assam. Moreover, Bureau of Energy Efficiency commissioned a study on quantifying energy savings through advancing IST, based on a paper published by them in Current Science in 2007.
