Kālidāsa, the renowned Sanskrit poet and playwright (author of Shakuntala, Meghaduta, and Abhijnanasakuntalam), flourished during the Gupta Dynasty (circa 4th-5th century CE), often called the Golden Age of ancient Indian culture. He was not associated with the Maurya or Pala dynasties.
