Himachal Pradesh is located in the western Himalayas and features numerous snow-capped mountain peaks, including parts of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. Its name literally means 'in the lap of the Himalayas' or 'snow province'. Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram are in the Eastern Himalayas or hills with different characteristics.
