Dispur is the capital city of the northeastern state of Assam. It became the capital in 1973 after the state of Meghalaya was carved out of Assam. Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also northeastern states but have their own capitals (Imphal, Aizawl, and Agartala respectively).
