Article 84(b) of the Indian Constitution and Section 36 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 prescribe that a person must be at least 25 years of age to contest Lok Sabha (House of the People) elections. For Rajya Sabha and State Legislative Assembly elections, the minimum age is also 25 years. For State Legislative Council, it is 30 years. 18 years is the voting age, not candidacy age.
