Alexander invaded India in 326-325 BCE during the reign of the Nanda dynasty, specifically under Dhana Nanda. The Maurya dynasty (Chandragupta) rose shortly after Alexander's departure, while the Gupta and Sunga dynasties came much later in history. The Nanda Empire was the dominant power in northern India at the time of Alexander's northwestern frontier campaign.
