Lake Baikal in southern Siberia, Russia, is the world's largest freshwater lake by volume (23,615 km³). It contains about 20% of all unfrozen fresh water on Earth's surface. While Lake Superior has the largest surface area, Baikal is also the world's deepest lake (1,642 m). Lake Victoria is Africa's largest by area, and Tanganyika is the second deepest.
