Baron Karl de Drais de Sauerbrun invented the Laufmaschine (running machine), later called the Draisine or velocipede, in 1817. This was the first two-wheeled, steerable bicycle precursor. Volta is associated with electricity, Franklin with multiple discoveries, and Dickson with Band-Aids.
