The 2012 Summer Olympic Games were hosted by London, United Kingdom. This was London's third time hosting the Olympics (previously 1908 and 1948). The games were held from July 27 to August 12, 2012. London won the bid in 2005, defeating Paris, Madrid, New York, and Moscow.

Michael Phelps (USA) holds the record for the highest number of Olympic medals - 28 total medals (23 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) across four Olympic Games (2004-2016). He surpassed the previous record holder Larisa Latynina (USSR) who had 18 medals (9 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze) in gymnastics. Mark Spitz and Alexander Dityatin have fewer total medals.

Lúcio (Lucimar Ferreira da Silva) was indeed the captain of the Brazilian national football team during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and during major tournaments including the 2009 Confederations Cup. He was a central defender and one of Brazil's key leaders, having also captained Brazil to victory in the 2002 World Cup (though Cafú was captain in the final).
