The Indian Air Force (IAF) was founded on October 8, 1932, as the Royal Indian Air Force under British colonial rule. After India gained independence in 1947, the prefix 'Royal' was dropped, and it became the Indian Air Force. This date is celebrated annually as IAF Foundation Day.

IAF stands for Indian Air Force, but Israel's air force is also acronymed as IAF (Israel Air Force or Heyl Ha'Avir). Other countries like Iceland, Iraq, and Italy have different air force acronyms - Iceland Air Defense Force, Iraqi Air Force, and Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) respectively.

During the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the Indian Navy's INS Vikrant operated Sea Hawks (a type of Hawker Sea Hawk aircraft) which successfully conducted bombing raids on East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The other options are incorrect: Marut was an Indian Air Force fighter, Harriers were V/STOL aircraft used by other navies, and MiG-29K was inducted much later.

The Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 2 will be powered by the General Electric GE-F414 engine, which is more powerful than the GE-F404 used in the current Mark 1 variant. The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is named 'Dhruv'. It's a multi-role utility helicopter designed for both military and civilian operations. Dhruv has been successfully exported to several countries and is known for its versatile performance in various roles including reconnaissance, transport, and medical evacuation.

The Indo-Russian joint project to develop a fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft for India is called PAK-FA (Perspektivny Aviatsionny Kompleks Frontovoy Aviatsii - Prospective Aviation Complex of Frontal Aviation). India partnered with Russia to co-develop this aircraft based on the Sukhoi T-50 prototype, with the intention of inducting it into the Indian Air Force as FGFA (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft).
