Optical fibers transmit light through total internal reflection, a phenomenon that occurs when light travels through a denser medium (core) and strikes the boundary with a less dense medium (cladding) at an angle greater than the critical angle. This causes the light to reflect back into the core rather than refracting out, allowing transmission over long distances with minimal loss.

Different colors of light correspond to different frequencies and wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum. Red light has the longest wavelength (approximately 700 nm) and lowest frequency, while violet has the shortest wavelength (approximately 400 nm) and highest frequency. This variation in frequency is what our eyes perceive as different colors.

Light travels at approximately 3×10^8 meters per second (about 670 million mph) in a vacuum. Sound travels much slower - roughly 343 meters per second (about 767 mph) in air at room temperature. This massive difference explains why you see lightning before you hear thunder, and why events at a distance appear to happen before the sound reaches you. The speed advantage is roughly 874,000 times faster for light.

Omega Centauri is the largest and brightest globular cluster in the Milky Way, visible to the naked eye. Located about 15,800 light-years away, it contains several million stars and spans about 150 light-years across, making it exceptional among globular clusters.

The Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope near Bonn, Germany, is the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope. Completed in 1971, it can observe the entire sky and operates across multiple radio wavelengths for astronomical research.

Plaskett's Star is a binary star system with a combined mass of about 116 times that of the Sun, making it one of the most massive stars known. Located in the constellation Monoceros, it consists of two massive O-type stars orbiting each other.
