Leo Hendrik Baekeland, a Belgian chemist, invented Bakelite in 1907. It was the first fully synthetic plastic, made from phenol and formaldehyde. Charles Goodyear worked with rubber vulcanization, Henry Ford with automobiles, and Roy Plunkett discovered Teflon.

Karl Benz invented the first practical automobile powered by an internal combustion engine in 1885-1886. His Motorwagen had three wheels and a four-stroke engine. Leo Baekeland invented Bakelite plastic, while Torricelli invented the barometer.

Kirkpatrick Macmillan, a Scottish blacksmith, is credited with inventing the first bicycle in 1839. His design had two wheels and was propelled by levers. Karl Benz invented automobiles, Torricelli the barometer, and Baekeland Bakelite plastic.

Nikolaus Otto invented the four-stroke internal combustion engine in 1876. Karl Benz later used this engine design in his automobile. Roger Bacon was a medieval scholar, and Alan Turing was a computer scientist.

Gunpowder was invented by Chinese alchemists in the 9th century. Roger Bacon wrote about gunpowder in Europe in the 13th century, introducing knowledge of explosives to the West. Zeppelin worked with airships, Whittle with jet engines.

Alan Turing is considered the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. While he didn't build the first electronic computer (ENIAC), his work on computation theory and the Turing machine laid the mathematical foundations. Frank Whittle invented the jet engine.

Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in 1867 as a safer alternative to nitroglycerin. He established the Nobel Prizes using his fortune from explosives and other inventions. Bell invented the telephone, Franklin conducted electricity experiments, Edison the light bulb.
