Human Development Index is a measure of human development over the years which includes per capita income for evaluating the utility which people get from different products, life expectancy which measures the progress made in health and nutrition and educational levels. Human development Index was devised by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 1990 in their first Human development report. 

Human development is a multidimensional concept that encompasses economic, social, cultural, and political aspects of life.

The HDI is calculated using a normalization formula: (Actual Value - Minimum Value) / (Maximum Value - Minimum Value). This scales each indicator between 0 and 1.

In the HDI, the health dimension is measured by life expectancy at birth, which reflects the overall health and survival conditions of a population.

The 1997 Human Development Report explicitly defined human development as the process of widening people's choices and raising their well-being.

Mean years of schooling is calculated as the average number of years of education received by people aged 25 and older, based on educational attainment levels.
