Biogas consists of
-
CO$ _2$, C$ _2$H$ _5$OH, H$ _2$
-
CH$ _4$, CO$ _2$, H$ _{2}$
-
CH$ _{4}$, SO$ _{2}$, H$ _{2}$
-
C$ _{2}$H$ _6$, CO, H$ _{2}$
Biogas consists mostly of methane (CH$ _4$), carbon dioxide (CO$ _2$) and a mix of trace gases including nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide (H$ _2$S), hydrogen and others. Methane is the main constituent (63%) of the biogas. The other major constituent is CO$ _2$ (30%).
Hence, option B is correct.
How can you contribute to the maintenance of green wealth of your locality?
-
Taking care of the plants and trees growing in or around my locality.
-
Plant more and more trees.
-
Encourage the people in my locality to plant more trees.
-
All of the above.
I can help in maintaining the green wealth of my locality by taking care of the plants and trees growing in or around my locality. I can plant more and more trees. I can also encourage the people in my locality to plant more trees by informing them about the importance of growing trees. I can make young children aware of the effects that deforestation has on our environment and on our planet. I can also ask them to water the plants daily, which will take very little of their time. I believe planting new trees is as important as taking care of the existing trees.
What can you as an individual do to reduce your consumption of the various natural resources?
-
Stop cutting of trees
-
Waste electricity
-
Never recycle
-
Never reuse
-
I will prefer walking and cycling while commuting to short distances.
-
I will avoid wastage of water as much as possible.
-
I will minimize my usage of electricity.
-
I will use public transport; instead of private transport.
Biogas can be a good substitute for
-
Fuelwood
-
Petroleum and oil
-
Coal
-
Charcoal
In many areas, biogas can be used as a replacement for fuels like firewood and dried dung for their energy consumption. Replacing firewood with biogas would have a positive effect on deforestation. That would improve the local environments, ecosystems, problems with erosion etc. Hence option A is correct.
What changes would you suggest in your home in order to be environment-friendly?
-
Plant more trees
-
Hazardous waste materials like paint, oil, ammonia and other strong chemical solutions should never be disposed
-
Keep the light on
-
Throw garbage in water bodies
List five things you have done over the last one week to
(a) Conserve our natural resources
(b) Increase the pressure on our natural resources
-
Throw biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste into separate bins. And use air conditioners.
-
Use plastics and polythene bags for carrying goods.
-
Harvest rainwater.
-
Travel by a CNG bus for long distances and walk for short distances.
- Conserve our natural resources.
- Increase the pressure on our natural resources.
Biogas is a mixture of
-
${CO +H _2 +CO _2}$
-
${CH _4+CO+CO _2}$
-
${CH _4 +CO _2+H _2}$
-
${CO +CO _2 + NO _2}$
Biogas is principally a mixture of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) along with hydrogen (H2) gas in small amount. It can be collected from landfills, covered lagoons, or enclosed tanks called anaerobic digesters. Biogas is commonly made from animal manure, sludge settled from wastewater, and at landfills containing organic wastes. Hence option C is correct.
For the production of biogas, the biogas plant requires
-
Molasses
-
Cattle dung
-
Vegetable peels
-
All of the above
The biogas plant helps in the degradation of the organic waste to form gases like methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and some other gases in traces. The wastes from various different sources can be used for the production of biogas. The molasses are considered as the industrial wastes which can be degraded by the bacterial action. The cattle and animal dung is used in the biogas plant. The vegetable peels, fruit peel and other domestic wastes are used as the sources for the production of biogas.
Mixture of gases formed when the slurry of animal dung and water is allowed to ferment in the absence of oxygen.
-
Biomass
-
Biogas
-
Methanogens
-
All
Definition of biogas- The gas fermentation of animal during which takes place in the absence of air due to the presence of anaerobic bacteria.
